Talented Individuals, Investors, and Student's Parent Invitation Visa F-1-15

Updated: Jan 23

Today, I will post about a recent case of inviting the parents of a Mongolian student studying in Korea.

First, the applicant was a Mongolian male student in a doctoral program residing in Suwon. He visited my office to inquire if there was a way to invite his parents.

He had a plan to invite his parents, who had struggled to support him studying abroad, to Korea, a medically advanced country, for a short period. He wanted to provide them with medical treatment and travel around Korea to show filial piety.

After hearing his situation, I proceeded with the application for a student's parent invitation visa (F-1-15). Let's look at the requirements and necessary documents for the student's parent invitation visa (F-1-15).

※ The F-1-15 student's parent invitation visa is a short-term visa with a stay period of up to 90 days.

Talented Individuals, Investors, and Student's Parent Invitation Visa (F-1-15)

1. Inviter's Requirements

① Talented Individuals

- Holders of D-5 (Journalism), D-7 (Intra-Company Transferee), D-8 (Corporate Investment), D-9 (Trade Management), E-1 (Professor) to E-7 (Special Activities) visas, with an annual income of at least twice the previous year's GNI.

• Includes those who maintain the scope of activities of the said visas but have changed to other residence qualifications (F-2, F-5, etc.)

• For those who obtained a bachelor's degree or higher in Korea and then changed to the above residence qualifications, an annual income equal to or greater than the previous year's GNI is acceptable. ② Investors

- Those who have invested more than 300 million won in Korea according to the Foreign Investment Promotion Act, Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, Investment Immigration Program, etc., and have continuously resided in Korea for more than six months after foreign registration.

③ Students

- Those who have been studying in a master's or doctoral program in Korea for more than six months.

• However, if the inviter, including the invitee, has more than three accompanying family members, they must prove possession of annual living expenses in Korea equivalent to at least 50% of the previous year's GNI.

2.Invitee's Requirements

- Parents of the inviter or their spouse, allowing up to two people to stay simultaneously.

Required Documents

Documents Prepared by the Inviter

Documents Prepared by the Invitee

❍ Visa Issuance Recognition Application Form (Form No. 21)

- Attach one 3.5cm×4.5cm passport-sized photo of the invitee

❍ Copy of the inviter's foreign registration card

❍ Identity Guarantee Form (separate format)

❍ Invitation Reason Letter

Statement of not engaging in employment activities

❍ Proof of Annual Income / Investment Funds / Living Expenses

❍ Additional documents that may be required

- Documents proving the maintenance of the original qualification's scope of activities for talented individuals who have changed to other qualifications

- Enrollment certificate for those in master's or doctoral programs in Korea

❍ Passport copy

❍ Family Relationship Proof Documents

※ These are the basic required documents.

Especially for the F-1-15 student's parent invitation visa, due to the high incidence of illegal stay and employment by invitees (especially in 21 high-risk countries),

In addition to the basic required documents, additional supplementary documents are often needed to prevent illegal stay and employment and to prove financial capability.

Especially, the additional supplementary documents requested vary depending on each individual's condition, so it is advised to consult with a professional and proceed accordingly.
