Targets

◆ Profit-making artistic activities such as music, art, literature

- Artists who engage in creative activities such as composers, painters, sculptors, craftsmen, writers, and photogra

- People who guide activities related to music, art, literature, photography, performance, dance, film, sports, and other arts

(Examples: Professional and amateur sports directors, orchestra conductors, etc.)

◆ Profit-making activities such as entertainment performances, theater, sports games, advertisements, fashion models, etc.

- Individuals or groups performing entertainment, performances, plays, sports, etc. for profit, regardless of their appearance or name

(Example: Professional and amateur sports players, etc.)

Not only those who intend to appear in entertainment, performances, plays, etc. but also accompanying people such as makeup artists, managers, etc.

※ In case of a stay of less than 90 days, it falls under the short-term employment (C-4-5) qualification.


E-6-1 (Arts and Entertainment)

◆ Those who engage in profit-making artistic activities such as music, art, literature, and professional broadcast acting, and those who engage in professional entertainment activities under the regulations of the Performance Act

(Composers, painters, photographers, etc. artists, orchestra performances, conductors, advertising, fashion models, Go players, broadcasters, entertainers, theater people, makeup artists, etc.)

E-6-2 (Hotel and Entertainment)

◆ Those who do not fall under 'E-6-1' and engage in performances or entertainment activities at hotel facilities and entertainment establishments under the Tourism Promotion Act

(Singers, performers, acrobats, magicians, etc.)

- 관Workers at auxiliary facilities of international conference facilities under the provisions of Article 3, Paragraph 1, Item 6 of the Tourism Promotion Act, and those who intend to operate at performance venues registered under the Performance Act at tourist facilities under the Tourism Promotion Act (Example: Walkerhill Hotel, etc.)

E-6-3 (Sports)

◆ Professional athletes such as football, baseball, basketball, etc., and those who work in the field of sports, such as their accompanying managers

(Football, baseball, basketball, etc. professional players, professional team directors, managers, etc.)

Maximum stay period granted at one time: 2 years


Documents necessary for issuing E6 visa


First, the inviting company intending to invite foreigners with an E-6 visa must confirm the relevant department related to the activity and prepare various documents to necessarily obtain an employment recommendation letter or performance recommendation letter from the department. The fact that a recommendation letter needs to be issued to apply doesn't mean the issued recommendation letter guarantees the issuance of the E-6 visa.

Also, the department issuing the recommendation letter is different for each activity, and in addition to the recommendation letter, if you intend to perform or engage in entertainment activities at hotel facilities and entertainment establishments under the Tourism Promotion Act, a performance plan, entertainment activity plan, certificate of qualification or certificate of experience, etc., are additionally required.

☞ All qualifications for Artistic Performances (E-6) are based on a Visa Issuance Confirmation Certificate

◆ (Exception) In the case of E-6-2 visa, if the applicant is a national of countries with frequent illegal stay (21 countries), terrorist-supporting countries (3 countries), and countries prohibited from visa-free entry to Jeju (11 countries), in principle, apply for and issue a visa at the embassy in their own country

◆ However, if the E-6-2 applicant is a permanent resident of a third country or a long-term resident who has stayed continuously for 2 years or more, they can apply for and issue a visa at their embassy in the third country

◆ Grant an appropriate stay period by comprehensively referring to the performance recommendation period, employment recommendation period, employment contract period, etc.

* However, 'performances' that have entertaining elements such as parade shows, musicals, etc. at performance venues registered according to the Performance Act in tourism facilities (e.g., Walkerhill Hotel, Busan Lotte Hotel, etc.), amusement facilities (e.g., Everland, Lotte World, Seoul Land, etc.), and auxiliary facilities of international conference facilities (Coex, BEXCO, etc., trade fairgrounds, and super deluxe hotels such as Lotte - Hyatt) are also recommended for performances.

For Advertising Models - Preferential Examination Criteria


1. Inviting Company

▶ Model management companies that meet all of the following requirements:

- Corporate business operator

- Registration as a popular culture and arts planning business

- Sales performance of at least 500 million KRW in the past 3 years

- Employment of at least 5 Korean full-time workers in the past 3 months

- More than 5 years of experience in the same industry (or more than 5 years of experience in the same industry by the CEO)

- The business registration certificate should not have any unrelated industries such as wholesale and retail, and only related industries such as management, entertainment, model agency, etc. should be listed

- No default on tax payments


2. Foreigners

▶ Not from a country with high incidence of illegal stay or other high-risk violations of law

Change of Residence Status

◆ Limited permission is granted in cases corresponding to detailed qualifications E-6-1 and E-6-3.

▶ For internationally renowned professionals in art and sports, changes are allowed after obtaining headquarters approval.

▶ Permit duration: The employment contract term + 1 month from the date of change, up to a maximum of 2 years.

1. Changing from student visa (D-2), job-seeking visa (D-10) to arts and entertainment (E-6) status

A. Qualifications (You must meet all the following requirements ①, ②, ③)

① An individual legally staying in possession of job-seeking (D-10) status or student visa (D-2) status

② The field you want to work in should correspond to professor (E-1), language instruction (E-2), research (E-3), technical instruction (E-4), professional job (E-5), arts and entertainment (E-6), or special activity (E-7) residence status, and you must meet the respective qualifications

③ You must have an employment contract with the representative of the institution or organization you want to work at

※ A holder of a student visa (D-2) is a prospective graduate who qualifies to change to a job-seeking visa (D-10). (However, even if you are still studying, you can change if you have already obtained a Bachelor's degree or higher from your home country or a third country and meet the necessary career qualifications.)

2. Changing from visa exemption (B-1, B-2 status) or short-term visa (C-3 status) to arts and entertainment (E-6) status

A. If there are unavoidable reasons or if necessary in the national interest, change of status is permitted *

- For athletes, performers, dancers who entered the country to take a team test, etc., or participants in international competitions with prize money, the head of the office may exercise discretion to grant permission to change the status of residence (the base date for the duration of stay is not the date of change of status but the date of entry)

- If it is difficult for the head of the office to judge, approval from headquarters is required, and activities corresponding to the arts and entertainment (E-6-2) sector are prohibited from changing the status of residence.

3. Changing to arts and entertainment (E-6) status for those staying long-term under a general residence status who want to stop their current residence status activities and engage in short-term broadcasting appearances or modeling activities before returning to their home country.

4. Changing from visa exemption (B-1) status to long-term residence status for Germans

- The upper limit of the period of stay that can be granted once for each residence status

5. Change to professional work status for the spouse of a professional foreign worker

A. Permitted target

- A spouse of a professional foreign worker <E-1 to E-5, E-6 (excluding E-6-2), E-7> holding accompanying (F-3) status

Extension of Stay Period

A. Target

▶ Registered foreigners of E-6 qualifications who need to continue to stay due to an extension of the employment contract term, change of workplace, etc.

B. Permit Criteria

- Employment contract term + 1 month (up to 2 years)

▶ E-6-2​

- Performance recommendation period or employment contract term

(Maximum 1 year. However, if the minor's harm in the performance recommendation is 'harmful', it is up to 6 months)

Re-entry Permit

1. Exemption from re-entry permit

- Foreigners who need to register are exempt from re-entry permits if they intend to re-enter within 1 year from the date of departure.

- If the remaining period of stay is less than 1 year, it is exempt from re-entry permit within the scope of the period of stay.
