C-4 Visa Short-Term Employment (C-4-5) Types, Eligibility, Required Documents

Updated: Jan 30

Today, we will look into the required documents and target for the C-4-5 visa, which is one of the types of C-4 visas (short-term employment).

C-4 visas are short-term visas with a duration of 90 days or less. Therefore, like other short-term visas (C-3 visas), they are generally issued at the discretion of the local South Korean embassy or consulate, and the visa application should be made there.

Furthermore, similar to C-3 visas, unless there are exceptional circumstances (such as the presence of a government cooperation document), it is not possible to extend the stay beyond 90 days.

if you enter South Korea and intend to extend your stay within the initial 90 days, you may be able to extend it for a maximum of 90 additional days if you have a valid reason. We recommend consulting with an expert regarding this matter.

The key difference between C-4 visas and C-3 visas, which are both short-term visas, lies in the fact that C-4 visa holders engage in profit-generating activities, such as receiving compensation or allowances.

While individuals on C-3 visas for short-term training purposes may receive expenses not exceeding their living expenses, C-3 visas are not considered work visas, and individuals are generally not allowed to engage in profit-generating employment within South Korea. On the other hand, C-4 visas are explicitly intended for short-term employment, where compensation or allowances are the primary purpose.

Therefore, regardless of the specific type of C-4 visa being applied for, it is essential to attach a contract containing details regarding compensation or allowances when applying for a C-4 visa. Depending on the type of C-4 visa, compensation or allowances may be paid by the hiring company in South Korea or by an overseas entity that has dispatched individuals to South Korea.

Now, let's explore the types of C-4 visas and the required documents for each category.
